I have a patio where I want to remove the middle one of the three posts that are there.
The distance between the outermost posts is 520 cm.
The depth from the house wall to the posts is 200 cm.
There is a roof above, four rafters resting on the house wall, cc 120.
The current glulam resting on the post is 90x270.
The roof against the outer wall (left picture 1) rests on that wall and is not affected by the change.
I have done some research and generally, a glulam of 115x405 (maybe more?) would be needed. If I understand everything correctly. Feel free to correct me.
But since it's a whole rafter that rests on the house, do I need such a strong glulam?
Practically speaking. Do I need to remove the current one and replace it with a new one? Can I extend the current one? At first, I thought I could attach another 90x270 outside, but then I have the problem that it doesn't rest on any of the outer posts. If that is a problem?
You need to provide significantly more information for one to understand the construction. Floor and section drawings, for example. Where was the photo of the roof trusses taken? I don't think it's realistic to keep the current beam. For a new and old beam to work together, they need to be glued together, which is not easy in this situation. A beam with dimensions 115x405 (without checking if it's the correct dimension) can be replaced by 215x315.

I don't have a floor plan that includes the roof trusses. The picture of the roof trusses is taken from the house wall, where the overhang out to the posts begins.
