Remove beam in my double garage in the basement
I would like to remove the beam in the middle of the garage and understand that I need to replace it with something. What is the best thing to do? I would prefer not to lose any ceiling height.
Would it work to place an I beam along the horizontal beam and just support it at the ends? Here are pictures so you can see how it looks.

Since it is a concrete beam you have, it needs to be supported in the middle as someone has calculated.
If you want to relieve it, you must place another beam under it that takes the load from the entire beam and then transfer it down with posts on the outside as you intended. You lose ceiling height.
The alternative is to shore up the sides and remove the entire beam and put in a new one in iron or wood and transfer it down at the walls.
