I need to go through a joist to run new plumbing to the toilet. The joist is approximately 50x220.

I am thinking of screwing and gluing 21mm construction plywood on both sides (two total 42mm plywood)

gluing with construction adhesive (essve esstack)

My question is about screws, what type of screw should I use in terms of length and width? And how closely should I screw them?

Spontaneously, I have thought of screws 6x90 and about 10-15cm apart - staggered from both sides along the top and bottom edges, and some in the middle.

thanks for the tips

  • Wooden joists in an open floor structure, surrounded by debris and dust, in preparation for plumbing work or reinforcement with plywood.
I had used regular wood glue, esstack feels unnecessary, you don't need it to grab immediately.
