I have a glulam beam as a support beam/front beam in our glass-enclosed porch. I would like to make a hole in it for a fan (above the grill).

The glulam beam measures 225x90mm, the span is 2470mm, and I was thinking of reinforcing it with a metal plate on the inside and possibly one on the outside, depending on how thick the metal needs to be.
The hole must be at least 100mm, but preferably 125mm, and the plate can have dimensions 960x225mm, the placement is shown in the sketch below:

Blueprint showing a glulam beam of 2470mm with holes for a fan, diameters 100mm and 126mm, with metal reinforcement plates measuring 960x225mm.

How thick do you think the plate/plates need to be?

I would say no one...
