Rain safety attic hatch that opens externally on the gable
Hello!
I am going to replace the panel and have an old attic hatch on the gable that is partly the reason why we need to replace the panel. The previous owner had cut out a space between the studs and made an attic hatch. Very nice... except that water leaked in through the gaps around it.
Now I'm thinking of making a new hatch and wondering if anyone can give tips on how to make a "watertight" hatch that opens outward (or inward if necessary).
I'm thinking of using window flashing over the hatch, but how do you prevent rain from getting into the other gaps?
The picture is of the current hatch.
Thankful regards

Hi.
Just like you place a flashing above, it might be an idea to put one below. On the right side, you can place a "lip" (standing board) as protection. The left side is trickier. If it were inward, you could do the same thing. I assume a rubber protector can be used so that the hatch can open outward?

Thanks for the post... that's probably what I'll do.L lellef said:
