An extension on the gable has standing seam flashing against vertical paneling with battens. The top edge of the flashing is bent against a groove filled with compound. The battens extend down a bit onto the flashing. When rain lashes against the construction, it leaks into the house. Can one remove the battens, fill with some sealing compound so it doesn't run down? Attach boards on the facade a bit down over the flashing and nail on battens?

Impossible to answer without pictures :D
