Is there anyone who can confidently speak about the quality difference in materials? Are cheapys/byggmax materials worse than, for example, beijer or the other big ones?
I'm sitting and fantasizing about an extension and doing calculations, but if the quality is worse, one would rather pay more for good material...
Does anyone have any opinion?

Short answer, but I mostly refuse to use lumber and plaster from various discount chains

There are many different quality levels and "sortings" of building materials. If you want really good lumber cheaply, you should buy it directly from the sawmill where all the building markets get their goods. It doesn't hurt to familiarize yourself with what the placement of heartwood in studs/planks/boards does for differences and what different types of wood are suitable for. If you're buying sheet materials, etc., you need to understand the material standards that exist or go and sneak a peek/ask at the expensive "professional places" and see if you find the same standard at the cheap places. A bit deceitful perhaps, but it's the smart ones who save money. The cheap places can surely tell you what the sorting is and why they are cheap if they are honest and not just trained as cashiers.
Something that has made me pay more by buying wood at places like Beijer is that I avoid the hassle of picking through a jumble of more or less poor-quality wood to find the good ones. I bought insulation, gypsum, and a lot of other things at Bauhaus in Norrköping recently. I was going to pick a lot of 45x45, but I gave up quite soon. Partly because it wasn't cleaned up after people had been there and left the wood in a mess, and partly because it took forever to gather 10 decent beams. Many were twisted and had large blemishes, cracks, or were basically sapwood with bark. What made me completely give up was when I got to a pack of beams that I thought looked good, but it turned out to be soaking wet. I saved some money on insulation and gypsum but gladly paid for Beijer in Västervik to deliver proper wood to the dock.
If you're planning to do a lot of building in a short time, I recommend ordering everything from a reputable supplier.
You can definitely find the same items at byggmax as you can at, for example, beijer.
For my first build, I bought from byggmax and transported everything home myself (I don't know how many weeks I spent on collecting and transporting it all).
For my second build, I calculated everything carefully and ordered everything from beijer in three batches. A big advantage with a truck with a long crane that places the stacks exactly where you want them. Anything that was incorrect, they picked up and sent new items without any fuss.
The price, if you buy in some volume, turned out to be almost the same at beijer as at byggmax, about 5% more.
Sheet metal, nails, screws, fittings, plywood I have, however, bought at byggmax.
If you're close to www.optimera.se, they are definitely worth considering. I bought my bricks and roof steps at a really good price. If they were closer, I might have bought everything there, but I like to be able to swing by on my way home from work.
