Hi!

I just got home from vacation and discovered that the contractors who built an interior wall for us made a mistake.

It's a standard interior wall with 45x70 studs that are plastered, and the door frame hasn't been installed yet since I plan to do it myself after the painters are finished. Now, it seems there was some misunderstanding between the contractors and me because the door opening is about 6 cm wider than the door frame, which means the gap is too large to place the casing nicely, and the door will be positioned incorrectly. The contractors have gone on vacation, but they've promised via text message to make a deduction on the invoice.

Now, the question is, how can I fix this quickly as the painters are coming on Monday? Usually, there's about 1 cm in the gap, but now it's about 3-4 on each side. The only material I have available is some leftover plasterboard...

What should I do?

Go to a hardware store and buy 22 mm panel boards that you cut down to 96 mm, which is as wide as the wall is thick. Then cut them to the correct length and nail them in the door opening. If you have 3 cm too much on each side, this way you'll get an 8 mm gap allowance, which will be just right.
