I'm going to build a fence/trellis that I will then paint, should I use pressure-treated or regular wood?

We chose regular mostly because we were going to use oil paint anyway. When it rots away, we probably would have grown tired of how it looks and will put up something new.

Is there no point in using treated wood if you are going to paint it, will it be just as durable?

It holds up best with pressure-treated wood. I even saw that there is a special stain for pressure-treated wood. However, I can't remember what it was called.

Sure, it lasts better when treated. But an untreated one that is painted regularly lasts for many years as well.

I expect mine to last 10 years at least.

Building everything outdoors with pressure-treated wood. I'm tired of all the rotten wood and the endless painting to protect it. The oldest we now have is a 20-year-old fence in pressure-treated and unpainted once, where it doesn't matter with a little peeling paint or cracks in the paint, and still no tendency to be rotten.
