Primer basement floor recreation room?
Hello!
Should I apply primer before laying down a thick plastic sheeting on my basement floor?
The plan is to then lay the floor directly on the plastic sheeting.
The concrete has previously and still is affected by a certain odor since the previous flooring construction caused microbial growth.
The concrete has been sanded and sprayed with Ordox, but the odor remains, more than a year afterward...
I'm hesitant to use Platon because I suspect the odor might not completely disappear with a ventilated floor, so the idea is to first try with plastic sheeting...
Any tips are welcome, is it sensible to apply primer under the plastic?

Would not recommend using plastic wrap.
Is the floor insulated underneath?
Without knowing much about the conditions, I would have recommended a ventilated floor.
If you use plastic wrap, there is a risk that moisture from the ground will stay under the plastic wrap, and water will form there.
If you install a ventilated floor, it's the same situation but you ventilate away moisture and odor.
So in my opinion, I would have installed a Platon mat and ventilated the floor.

I don't know if the floor is insulated underneath, the basement was cast in 1970.
Ideally, I want to lay platon, but the question is if the smell that exists today will seep out.
I realize that there's really only one way to find out. But the primer might remove some old contaminated smell from the concrete.

You don't have to have wooden floors. There are nice ventilated needle-felt carpets you can lay directly on the concrete, allowing any moisture to seep up through the carpet. Attractive and additionally, the floor won't be as cold.
