I am planning to build a play structure for the children. It will be in the shape of a castle and I will be using a lot of studs, posts, and decking boards.
But what do you recommend I use? Treated wood or not? The play structure will also be painted, so that should provide some protection as well?

Hope someone can help me decide :)

Thanks in advance

If any parts make contact with the ground, they "Shall" be treated. This will primarily concern joists in your case; I don't know if you plan to bury joists, build on plinths, or have a loose construction, but as a general rule, at least the parts in contact with the ground should be made of treated wood.

Otherwise, it doesn't hurt with treatment, but if you're going to paint it, in my opinion, it's quite unnecessary.

You can do it like this: build everything with "ordinary" wood and treat the exposed parts of the wood. Mainly the aforementioned parts and tops of posts, etc.

Also, keep in mind that any splinters from treated wood are not exactly healthy, and when children play, it's easy to get a splinter if dad hasn't been diligent with file and plane.
