Hello,

We are interested in buying a house from the 70s. Classic slab on grade with sill.

I understand that in the 70s they built with treated sill that can emit odors and have some other issues. In 2017, an inspection was done and the treated sill placed on asphalt roofing felt measured 14.6%. The measurement was taken against the outer wall in February. No odor was noted then in the hole that was made in the floor.

No specific odor was noticed this week at the viewing. Should we refrain from buying with this risky construction or is it okay if nothing has happened in almost 50 years? The house has otherwise been completely renovated 15 years ago. Of course, an inspection will be done if we win the bidding.

Wouldn't be worried about buying that house. As mentioned, if it's okay now after 50 years, it will last another 50 years with normal maintenance.
