Preparatory work on a crack in a concrete wall before wallpapering
Hi!
Maybe I should have asked this question in the wallpapering forum, but I'll try here anyway.
In one room, I have a horizontal crack that goes across an entire wall, from a corner to a door frame. It previously went through four layers of wallpaper, which I have now removed in preparation for upcoming wallpapering.
I think the wall is made of aerated concrete. The crack is perhaps 2 mm high at most.
At the wallpaper store, they suggested that I should fill the crack with filler, put reinforcement fabric over it, and then, just to be safe, use that thick wallpaper whose name I forget, but which is meant to cover unevenness, and finally wallpaper over with my wallpaper.
Does this sound like a sensible approach to reduce the risk of the crack showing through the new wallpaper?
And if so, is there a specific type of filler I should use on the crack?
Can you give any example of reinforcement fabric or reinforcement tape (does it matter which?) that would be suitable, and where to get it? Is it self-adhesive on the wall or how does it work? Does it have to be plastered over or something similar?
Grateful for some more detailed advice on materials and approach!
And preferably with simple words, I am a happy amateur.
P.S. I've had painters in another room of the apartment who put some type of reinforcement fabric over a crack and then filled it. That crack has reappeared within a month and started to show again, so I think the building is moving quite a bit.
