I'm about to start building a deck for our house, and since I haven't touched a hammer in a few years, I thought I'd follow some instructions from ByggMax's "Do-it-yourself" video.
What I'm most concerned about after watching it is the foundation posts. We live in Jämtland, and the land around the house was roughly leveled last year. I'm not sure if there have been any major ground settlements over the first winter. The soil survey conducted before the construction started states the following:
"The soil consists of approximately 0.3-0.4m of peat, humus, and/or topsoil with roots and plant parts, underlaid by what is visually assessed as sandy stylish clay moraine. Probing shows that the moraine at the surface is semi-solid, becoming solid or very solid at greater depths. Bore depth at most 1.8m. Design pressure value of the clay moraine, fd=0.10 Mps
When arranging roads and plans, consideration must be given to the fact that the soil is frost-susceptible and can, according to table CB/1 in Anläggnings AMA 98, be classified as frost-susceptibility class 4"
I was thinking of drilling about 90cm, then laying about 25cm of gravel/crushed stone so that the foundation post sticks out about 5cm. Is this sufficient? Also, how many levels does that frost-susceptibility class go up to?
