Practical benefits of plaster ceilings?

If we disregard economic and aesthetic aspects, what practical advantages are there with gypsum versus foiled MDF/particleboard (assuming they can be painted over) as ceiling?

Gypsum can withstand fire. What else?
Gypsum might be easier to patch if it gets damaged???

(Sorry if this is a common question, but I have actually tried searching first)

You have more or less answered your own question, for damages one "happens" to get, can include screw holes from lamps and the like.

What is the actual problem with plastering a foiled ceiling?

The plaster doesn't adhere to the foil?
The foil gets damaged when sanding the plaster?
Different appearance after painting?
