Which is better for moisture-proofing, placing a balcony post directly on the concrete with a piece of tar paper in between, or raising it a couple of centimeters to create an air gap? With an air gap, the weight that the post supports rests on the bolts you set in the post anchor, so the strength should be better if it stands against the concrete? :S

I did the same with the posts for the roof over the patio, feels better if the post stands on the plinth instead of "hanging" on a couple of bolts. I placed roofing felt in between and then screwed it in place.
I don't have pressure-treated posts, so they stood in base oil for a few hours to saturate the end grain.
