Hello,
I have a general question. You've probably heard of asbestos-containing so-called "popcorn" ceilings that were installed in American residential homes until the 1980s. These are ceilings where a white, popcorn-like texture was sprayed or painted on to hide any unevenness and because it was cheap. These ceilings often contained white and even brown asbestos in varying degrees.

I'm wondering if this was solely an American phenomenon or if it also occurred in other countries, like Sweden? I've seen many ceilings with a similar texture here, but just from looking, it's impossible to determine what the material is; it could simply be spray spackling.
Thanks!

Anyone have an answer to that perhaps?

Have never seen, and would not want to have. Seems to be a perfect breeding ground/breeding place/hiding spots for all sorts of small critters that we do not want in our homes.
We have such texture on the ceiling in the children's playroom, but it is probably spray plastered, although one can't be sure. Regardless, no bugs are growing there, if they started to, it would probably be more of a hygiene problem than anything else.
