Planning to buy a granite slab and cut pieces from it for shelves on a fireplace.
But when you cut, you get raw edges.

The question is whether you can polish these edges yourself so they become approximately as shiny as the slab's large surface.
What do you need?

You buy these slabs per m2. Then you pay for polishing per edge. A simple solution is to buy pre-cut pieces, then you get them polished "included". The edges will then be just as good as the large surface. But that is not the DIY solution.
