Close-up of a damaged fabric ceiling from the 1950s-60s, revealing underlying wooden planks. Hi! I have two rooms with stretched ceilings from probably the 50s-60s. I want to tear it down since there are nice planks underneath and because it's damaged. Does anyone know if it was common to treat this material with some kind of poison like asbestos, for example?

Asbestos is not a poison you treat things with.

Burlap, shredded paper, and wallpaper paste...
The most toxic thing should be the paint...
