Hello!
We have just enclosed our balcony with glass, but unfortunately, we were not allowed to enclose everything due to building permit issues. This results in a gap of 700x1600 (w x h) which I plan to fix with a plexiglass that can easily be removed or put in place when it rains or starts getting cold again.
The thickness of the real glass is 7mm, so I'm thinking of buying plexiglass of the same thickness.
Do you think this sounds like a good idea?

Hi!
It shouldn't be drilled, so I plan on buying U-profiles to attach on each side for stability.
When looking further, there is plexiglass, acrylic, or polycarbonate. Which is best? I live quite high up, so the glass needs to withstand wind, heat, and cold well.

The reason for 7 mm is that the other glasses have that thickness. The priority on my part is to somehow prevent the glass from falling down from the balcony. What thickness do you think would work better and still be safe?H hapazard said:
I don't think you'll find 7 mm. 6 or 8 are the usual thicknesses. Are you sure the glass is 7mm? I've never heard of 7 mm glass. If it's 3+3 laminated, then it's pretty close to 7mm.
6 mm will work well and be sturdy. Polycarbonate is the best; it holds up to almost anything. Acrylic glass works and is quite durable. It's what's normally called plexi. Plexi is a manufacturer of acrylic glass. You need a piece with UV protection and scratch protection.

Plexiglass is a brand from Röhm for PMMA, i.e., acrylic. Lexan or Makrolon are brands for polycarbonate. There are, of course, more. Polycarbonate is impact-resistant but somewhat prone to scratches. Acrylic is more brittle but has a harder surface and better UV resistance. However, there are UV-stable polycarbonate grades. Acrylic is recommended.D David1996 said:
Ah, that's unfortunate... Call and check with Plexigruppen (https://plexigruppen.se), I've ordered from them before, so you'll get help from those who know plexiglass. It is vacation time right now though, but otherwise, try plexishoppen.se (https://plexishoppen.se/pages/plexiglas). Hope it works out!D David1996 said:Hello!
