Hello!
I have a wall built with mexitegel from the 60s behind the stove. The wall is wider than the chimney and is, according to assessment, only there for "decorative" purposes. The chimney and wall are (of course) in the middle of the house, so there are no temperature/humidity differences behind/in front of the wall. The wall is very rough in structure, with relatively deep joints and a very rough surface of mexitegel. I now want to plaster the wall to get a smoother appearance.
BUT unfortunately, the wall has been painted with plastic paint (which seems to adhere very well, as mentioned, completely dry and warm wall....). Is it possible to plaster on top of the plastic paint, given the rough structure should still allow the mortar to adhere, and moisture migration is not an issue...? I was thinking of using a fairly high-strength mortar (like plaster mortar C) that forms a solid "cake" so that the surface stays put even if it detaches (hollow) behind somewhere?
What do you think? Anyone who has tried or has a qualified guess?
Grateful for tips and advice!
