I am renovating the kitchen and have removed chipboard/thick masonite to now drywall. It will be IKEA base cabinets and wall cabinets. To the right is the chimney, then there are studs where the first one against the chimney is 15 mm in, the drywall is 13 mm (see the arrow in the picture).
The cabinets will hang on wall rails, are they sensitive to 2 mm? Should I add something to the stud, if so, what?
Drywalling the chimney is not possible because the base cabinets would then stick out into a door arch (off the right side of the picture).
I don't know if I'm being fussy, but I don't want to encounter problems afterward.
If you don't have a good band saw or miter saw, buy some 2 mm veneer and place it behind the drywall. There may be other irregularities that need to be addressed, so it's always best to start with as much precision as possible.
Yes, I have a bandsaw. And I think I have some veneer that might be 1.5 mm.
I agree, it's always good to stay within the margins from the start.
However, the other beams further to the left seem to require a bit more than veneer...
Then it's lucky that you have a bandsaw. I personally couldn't manage without one.
Yes, it's damn good to have sometimes. My dad built a few bandsaws of which I have one, he worked at a company that manufactured woodworking machines (admittedly not many bandsaws) so he knew how it should be done.
Sturdy woodworking machines do last a very long time. I think a good band saw should have a cast table that can be tilted in both directions. The band guidance is crucial. The free opening shouldn't be too small either. And then, not everyone can afford a Kölle.
Solid woodworking machines last a long time. A good bandsaw, in my opinion, should have a cast table that can tilt both ways. The band guidance is crucial. The free opening must not be too small either. Not everyone can afford a Kölle.
No cast table but about 10 mm of planed steel. Can't tilt. The guidance is really important; I have issues with it pulling if I'm working with hard wood like oak. But you don't do that very often. I don't know how much opening I have, maybe 300 mm. It's annoying when it's not enough, but in many cases, having double wouldn't have helped.
