Hello

I'm in the process of renovating and would like a second opinion. I'm putting up drywall throughout the room and want to know what to do around the old open fireplace that we've torn out. (It was extended from the chimney)

Can I drywall against the existing wall and over the chimney? The flue will be bricked up first!

Is it heat or humidity you're worried about?

Mostly the humidity. It doesn't get warm against this part of the chimney breast when burning downstairs 🙂

Personally, I would probably choose to polish and skim coat over the chimney. The cardboard on gypsum boards, in my opinion, is sensitive to moisture.

But there are gypsum boards that don't have cardboard wrapping. Can't you use one of those just over the chimney?

I was also thinking of skim coating, but there are so many loose bricks that it will require a lot of mortar, etc.

Are you thinking of waterproof board or outdoor plasterboard? 🙂

Thought about våtrumsskiva 😊
