Before it gets too cold, I need to repair the plaster on the chimney stack where it is exposed in the attic. The house is from 1929, and I believe the plaster is original. I guess it's pure lime mortar that has been used and that I should use hydraulic lime mortar?
Can an amateur like me determine if it is kc-mortar or lime mortar currently on the chimney stack? I've read that lime mortar is lighter, but is it significantly lighter or are there just small shade differences?
Do you need to apply a primer beforehand, or is it enough to just water it? How thick can the layers be applied at a time, and how long does it need to dry between layers?
