Hey!

I'm planning to convert this old storage room into a small home studio. I've never done anything like this before, so I'm going to ask 1000 questions in this forum :D The first thing I wonder is how I should deal with the plaster. It's incredibly porous. I can scratch about two cm into the wall with my finger. I guess you have to knock off the whole thing. Or? Then I wonder about a hole in the floor (in the picture). How do you fill it in the easiest way possible? If anyone gets any ideas from looking at the pictures or has any tips, feel free to share. As I said, I don't have much experience with this, but I'm reasonably handy.

Thanks ;)

  • An old storage room with peeling plaster walls, a wooden chair, and shelving filled with paint cans. Visible pipes and a hole in the concrete floor.
  • A deep hole in a concrete floor, surrounded by some loose debris and partially covered with a cardboard box. The floor appears worn and old.
  • Close-up of a deteriorating wall with peeling plaster and a visible pipe on the side, highlighting the porous texture needing repair.
Hmm.. No one has any creative solutions? :)

You have an awful lot of work ahead of you, the plaster must be removed if it is loose. If it is an outer wall where the plaster is loose, there are likely moisture problems. Personally, I would frame up a new wall instead of chiseling plaster.

You fill the floor with a floor filler that you mix yourself. The nearest paint store has what you need.

There have been moisture problems before, but since the house was drained a few years ago, it's probably not an issue anymore. Don't I have to remove the plaster and apply new before I put up a new wall? I was thinking of using blue Platon between the outer wall and the new wall.

Can you also level the floor with floor leveling compound?

The white on the wall is gypsum plaster and it should not be below ground level against the outer wall. I would rent a concrete grinder and remove all the plaster, costs about 450 kr per day. You can also use it to remove the paint on the floor.

Then you can choose to put up a rendering mesh for plastering with regular plaster/mortar C or frame with an air gap. How important is the acoustics? It should get better if you frame.
