A bit late response, I guess, but since no one else has replied. As far as I understand, wet-on-wet is recommended. Although, if you're a home tinkerer like me, you might not manage that, and it still works. But then it might be good to rough up the surface of the base layer with a piassava broom or something before it dries, so the next layer adheres well.
