Want to renovate the basement, starting with the recreation room and hobby room, eventually also the laundry room and bathroom. Currently, there is a planed wood ceiling in all the rooms, one option is to paint but over roughly 116 sqm of ceiling is daunting, therefore leaning towards installing drywall for smooth nice ceilings, can we screw directly into the existing ceiling or do we need to put up furring strips first?
It's almost ready for plastering directly. Start by removing all the old cable clips, crooked nails, and the like, hammer in poorly driven nails, and plane down any lumps on boards that have warped. Then it's just a matter of plastering on. A tip is to have access to a bunch of masonite strips to place between the plaster and the boards if there's a place where it's difficult to get the plaster flush due to boards of varying thickness. If the plaster isn't flush, the screws will go straight through the boards. Renting a plaster lift is also a good idea.
