Hello!
I am renovating an indoor staircase. The stringer is made of oak veneer. Plasterboard underneath. I was thinking of filling the transition and reinforcing it with a corner profile - but will it hold?

The stringer will be painted white. The picture shows the detail. The plasterboard has masonite underneath it.

No, I say because it's wood that moves so it will crack..
Better to plaster everything..

Thanks, but plastering isn't an option since we would then have to continue around the carriage piece.

Is it trim I should be looking at then?

Yes, a painted-in moulding better conceals movements...
