Hello,

I washed a very dirty deck this past fall for the first time since it was built 4-5 years ago. On the sections that are in the shade for most of the day (and under large trees), the algae were heavy, and it took a lot of scrubbing to remove it. When I bought green soap for cleaning, I was told that it would be safe to scrub by hand, with no risk of damage as long as I didn't use a machine, but now I've noticed that the wood is "peeling," see attached pictures.

Does anyone know if any action is required? For example, does it need to be sanded down and oiled? Even if no action is required, is there anything that can be done to spruce it up?

I would gratefully accept any tips.

Thank you in advance.

  • Close-up of a weathered wooden deck railing with peeling and flaking surface, possibly requiring maintenance, set against a backdrop of leafless bushes.
  • Close-up of a wooden deck with visible flaking and rough surface texture, possibly due to scrubbing and weather exposure.
I would have sanded it gently and then soaped it or stained it with a deck stain in a nice color.

Thanks for the tip!

The luddet usually disappears on its own after a couple of weeks or so.

Went through the same ordeal with our patio. I can highly recommend linoljesåpa after it has been treated; it smells good, protects well, gives a nice matte sheen, and becomes insanely soft and pleasant to walk on.
