I am going to install spotlights in the guest bathroom (in the ceiling, that is...:-)))))
I live in an apartment, and as it is now, there is a concrete ceiling. I have placed out battens that I have drilled/screwed into the concrete. Now it's about the panels for the new "inner ceiling".
What is smooth, cheap, and looks acceptable in this context? What kind of ceiling panels are commonly used in this context?

Best regards, Jörgen

You will need a drywall panel. Either regular gypsum for a completely smooth surface or ceiling gypsum, which are smaller boards with a beveled edge in between.

The small plasterboards with beveled edges are called kortplank. You avoid the job of filling joints, but the screw holes still need to be filled. Mine are 60x120cm and I was really pleased with the result. It was really smooth to put up even though I was alone. However, I did rent a screw gun. Available in other formats too.

Gyproc - Gyproc GKP 13 Kortplank

Also check interior ceilings in Gyproc's handbook available in PDF format on the website under "do it yourself."

Also, remember to have enough space behind the plasterboard for the transformer. Osram's small "mustrafos" require at least 6cm behind the plasterboard and a minimum 55mm diameter on the spot holes.

  • Room under renovation with plasterboard ceiling and scattered tools; exposed wires from ceiling.
I'm in the same situation as I need to help my sister lower her ceiling in the bathroom and equip it with spotlights.

Concrete ceiling where I'm fastening the joists, but then I thought about installing wood paneling that will be painted, is that a bad idea or just fine?

Then there's the question of depth and pots, maybe there are spotlights that don't require pots?
Or perhaps there are low-profile versions of both spotlights and pots?

Furniture spots or LED often manage without pots...

The panel poses no problems.

LED furniture spotlights can do without pots, yes. Genuine LED spotlights require a pot, just like with Halogen. However, not as large.

Sweet, then it's just a matter of going full speed ahead because those are exactly the spots I've been looking at.
Ex Hide a lite 1201/1202

How many in number would be suitable for a bathroom of about 8sqm? Considering around 6-7 at 10w or should I go for 20w? I honestly have no idea how much light these produce.
