Suppose you have a split-level house with a concrete facade on the 'lower part'. Is it a bad idea to clad this with wood paneling so that the facade looks more 'uniform'? I'm thinking about moisture transport, etc. If possible, what technique is best to use?

I have almost the same thoughts as you. My idea was to attach 30mm cellplast directly to the concrete wall, screw battens through this, and then attach the panel. See page 4 in this...

I was considering having horizontal panels to create a contrast. (I have vertical ones on the upper floor)

If you do as you planned, you should probably have plastic or tar paper strips between the battens and the concrete wall to prevent any moisture present in the wall from reaching the wood.

But it's not good to trap the moisture either. Tar paper sounds very enclosed.

Yes, but you don't cover the entire wall, just narrow strips behind each batten so that it doesn't come into direct contact with the concrete. Age-resistant plastic probably works just as well.

Yes, it seems to be a sensible solution.
