I am going to install a few square meters of 14 mm panel in the sunroom. The thing is, I'm pretty bad at nailing and a bit too stingy to buy a nail gun for this relatively small project. Can you install such a panel with deck screws (or other screws)? Is there any reason not to choose screws?
Choose a good screw that won't crack the wood, something self-countersinking and not too coarse. Maybe something as advanced as these https://www.grabber.se/guider/panel-list/
edit: But this one seems better for wood-to-wood if it's for something like facade paneling... https://www.gunnebofastening.se/nyhetsarkiv/panelskruv/
And then choose the right one for indoor/outdoor use.
edit2: Screws for this kind of use are also discussed here https://www.byggahus.se/forum/threads/vilken-skruv-till-panel.217615/ Grabber receives mixed reviews, from totally worthless and upwards. But it seems to mainly be the screw head that is the problem, but if you check the website, they say it’s T20 bits, so maybe they have changed.

Thanks! What does "övergänga" mean and what is it good for?Mikael_L said:

I have used these to screw down the deck. But I also discovered that they were very handy for screwing outdoor paneling as well. They hold very well and have a very small head. https://www.byggmax.se/trallskruv-dold-p24490C crillux said:
I actually don't know.C crillux said:
But I can think about how it should work.
The other thread closest to the screw head should be the "övergänga."
And you can see that it has a slightly tighter thread pitch than the main thread (applies to all three linked screws in the thread so far).
So when that thread goes into the plank, it will feed a little slower into the material, and thus the board being screwed will instead move towards the stud.
Then it also increases the holding power, reducing the risk of thread failure down in the stud when the screw head is countersunk, particularly risky when the panel board has a knot or something hard near where you're screwing.
