I'm going to put up exterior cladding on my extension. Part of the cladding will be horizontal as a "waist" between the floors, and the rest will be vertical. To match the waist with the original house, I need something that is about 10 mm behind the horizontal cladding. The question is: can you, for example, put an OSB board behind the cladding? Rain won't reach the board, but could outdoor moisture be enough to damage it?

I don't think you should place the panel flush against an inner board.
Moisture/water will remain between the layers due to capillary action, not dry out, and cause mold and rot.

No, extend the nailing strip with moldings instead, so you reach the right level!
How do you handle the drainage between the different panel sections, flashing or?

Yes, there is bleck between. I'll do as you suggest. Of course, there should be some air gap behind the panel. Sometimes you need someone to tell you when you're stuck in pondering. Thanks for that.

I believe the timber stacks at the hardware stores have strölister that are 10mm thick. Check if they can be used underneath to build on. Free is good!

Very good suggestion. Have a nice building weekend.
