We live in a newly built movehome 1.5-story house that was delivered with an unfinished upper floor. There is currently only an attic hatch to access the upper floor. I am now working on finishing the upper floor and plan to install a permanent staircase instead. A straight staircase, either pre-purchased or something I attempt to build myself.

Floor plan of a 1.5-story house showing joists and marked beams "1" and "2" for potential removal to install a straight staircase.

Am I correct in thinking that I can remove the studs marked with "1" and "2" (a total of 4) without affecting the load-bearing capacity? I suspect that the stringers for the staircase will then be screwed directly into the remaining stud. Any other common pitfalls that might be worth considering? It's a shame to have to tear up the floorboard when it is glued & screwed :)

Thanks in advance!

I see no problem in doing as you describe.

Thank you! That's what I suspected as well. In my head, those frames are only there because of the wind hatch :)
