I am planning to open up a part of the current wall between the kitchen and living room in my ground-floor apartment in a 5-story building (built in the 1920s). The wall is non-load-bearing and consists of dark, porous blocks (slag blocks?) with plaster on the outside. I have spoken with the association, and they suggest I contact an engineer to ensure it's okay, or alternatively get a special building insurance so I won't be liable if anything happens. Where can I find such an engineer (in Stockholm), and what does the service generally cost? What else do I need to consider when knocking down the wall (for example, is a beam needed at the top of the future doorpost to prevent anything from "falling down")? Grateful for any insights from those with more experience in the matter!
