Hello!

We have bought a house from '44 made of plaster and lightweight concrete (I think). In one of the interior walls (most likely load-bearing) we would like to open up to create an opening between the living room and kitchen.
Roughly: how much could it cost to create an opening in a load-bearing wall if a professional/craftsman were to do it?
The opening should be a bit wider than a regular door.

Thanks in advance!

Hello! I just did the same thing yesterday. Our walls consist of old muddy bricks that lie differently on each layer on this floor. I bought two reinforced lightweight concrete (?) beams in the desired length that were placed on the walls to ensure the width would match. They didn't cost much, under 1000 kronor. The work for two men took a couple of hours; demolishing the existing wall, removing the debris, and placing the beams. Now the finishing touches remain to make it look nice. The price depends on how much the craftsmen charge.

Feel free to get back to me with the final cost once the job is completed, thank you.

I had a load-bearing "Pizza arch" in a basement wall that I leveled with a 100mm HEA beam. I propped up the ceiling joists, knocked out the bricks, and installed the beam in the hole. Then I rented a Husqvarna K3000 Wet (http://se.husqvarnacp.com/node1552.aspx?nid=81107&pid=83290) from Ramirent and cut the right size in the wall. The cost was 700 SEK for the beam, 100 SEK for the props, and 500 SEK for the cutter/blade. It took less than 5 hours from the time I rented the materials until I returned them. Then it took 2 hours to vacuum up all the dust that came from the cutter (even with the wet solution, it dusted quite a bit), but that's another thing. If you're unsure, ask someone knowledgeable to calculate the strength. If you need a beam, I have a 1300mm wide one to spare.
