Hello,
I'm planning to store some electronics in a closet I have next to the living room and run cables to equipment that will be in the living room. For example, HDMI to a projector or receiver (future purchase) and 2-3 HDMI/DVI/VGA to TFT screens, USB from two computers for keyboards, etc., and possibly something more in terms of audio.
The wall this will go through is simple gypsum (looks like 13mm) on both sides, and I think it's just an air gap inside, no other insulation. In total, it's probably no more than 8-10 cm. Ideally, I don't want it open to the inside of the wall, so I'm considering installing some kind of tube.
The living room is going to be repapered, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to do this while I'm already busy with other renovations.
What would be a suitable diameter for a tube for the type of cables I want to run? I could imagine having 2-3 side by side to separate certain parts if there are disturbances somewhere.
I saw a couple of rectangular tubes from Clas Ohlson's "Ventilationssystem Myson" (55x110 mm). That might be just right for a couple of holes.

Do you also have tips on how to make this look nice? Maybe it's possible to find a simple cover to put over it with a brush on the edge to prevent most of the dust from passing through (and for some sound insulation if needed).
The appropriate height on the wall will probably be the same as existing wall outlets near the floor.

There are ready-made cable grommets available for purchase. Most are intended to be mounted on a tabletop, but you can easily complement them with a plastic pipe of suitable dimension. Search for "kabelgenomföring" to find, for example:

A bass reflex/bass port for speakers is another tip if you want an open hole with rounded edges.
Edit: Keep in mind that there are pipes with cables leading to the wall socket if you make the hole near it.

Good tips, I'll check that out. The rectangular model on the theofils website seems nice.Krawk said:
Where can you find good pipes for these, either for the 80x160mm or 80x240mm variants?
That's good to keep in mind, but in my case, there shouldn't be any problem with cables in the wall here. The wall outlets are on the concrete wall in the living room, and the cables go through the ceiling to the electrical panel in the closet.Krawk said:
But as they say, "better safe than sorry." I have a rule/metal/electrical conduit finder, a cheap model, which seems to work reasonably well on gypsum at least.
