I thought I would fix them without replacing the tiles. I was thinking of priming them, then smoothing them with tile adhesive, and finally painting them with a breathable paint. Completely idiotic or?

I would probably find out what type of wood fiberboards you have, e.g., tretex. Why are you going to plaster them with tile adhesive and not regular filler?

What do you want to do? Fix the walls but avoid tearing down the lovely fiber walls? If so, I have the same problem, they dust wonderfully when you tear them down, so I'm going to get a pallet of renovation plasterboard (6mm) and cover all the walls.

thinking of using tile adhesive for better adhesion, less cracking. (not aiming for smooth walls but a plastered surface). don't want to put up boards first as the nice old casings are unlikely to be dismantled without breaking. mostly wondering if there might be some nasty reaction with the old boards. (like 60s or something)
