new method replacing the snail dynamite..?
Hello!
I've heard rumors that there is something that has replaced snail dynamite. It is supposed to be some type of explosive. Probably less explosive and dangerous than dynamite but should work on rock and stone. This can also be used by regular folks. Does anyone know?
Regards, Z

Boulder Buster is what those small shots are called..
EDIT: Or well, Boulder Buster is an excellent alternative to snigeldynamite, although I don't know if that's what you meant..?

I have used this a couple of times with great results..

Great, that seems to work well. Going down into the mountain a bit for a pool construction. Have tried snigeln before but I'm probably too impatient to wait for the effect
Hope they have it at Cramo since I'm probably renting the drill there. Thanks for the help!
Stone cracker is another name for the same thing. Gunpowder charges are used. A detonator and possibly a booster charge. I've blasted away 6 cubic meters of rock with this method and I can highly recommend it. It's fun too
. If you want to go into a rock, you should definitely use a method that moves stone. Expanding mortar only ensures it cracks at best.
There is also a method called safex, but I haven't tried it myself.

Hi, can you tell me more about how you removed 6 cubic meters of rock with the stone splitter? I myself have removed about 5 m3 of rock with a pneumatic drill and an electric Hulk, and it was terribly noisy and dusty, so I don't recommend it. I still have about 5 m3 of rock I would like to remove. But it can't be so noisy and dusty. When it came to the Hulk, it cracked solid granite bedrock.
Does it also work with a "stone splitter"?
What I want to know is how many holes you had to drill and how long it took.
When I used a "Hulk," it couldn’t crack more than about 20-25 cm large rock pieces, and it required more than 500 holes and took about 200 man-hours to crack the rock. Which became very expensive in the end since Cramo charged about 3000 SEK including VAT/day for the equipment.

It was incredibly tough, that much I can say, and dirty not least. The difficult part was drilling the holes and chipping away semi-loose boulders and transporting all the stone away. The blasting itself was just fun. It was about 10 drill holes per cubic rock, I would guess. The problem was that not all holes could be used as effectively. They had to be completely watertight for there to be a proper blasting effect; then it was important to blast just the right amount of rock at a time, otherwise, the rock wouldn't come loose, and you would have to kindly drill new holes. I didn't precisely register how much time I spent on the blasting, but I think it was 3 or 4 weekends.

Unfortunately, I have to inform all law-abiding citizens that you need a blasting certificate to use the stone splitter. I don't think you need it to buy or store, transport, etc., but if something goes wrong when you're blasting, it's probably not good. I think it was because if you "boost" with like three charges in one hole, you get the same effect as dynamite.
He, he. Noticed that. Found a boulder in the gutter when I was clearing leaves this spring. You didn't need any "blasting license" to rent at vangeskog or other rental companies in Gothenburg anyway, but maybe it's the user's responsibility? /CCFein said:
I think it's like with cars. You don't need a driver's license to buy or store them, but you're not allowed to use them. It's a shame, I think, it would be unfortunate if the boulder ended up on the neighbor and you get in big trouble just because you didn't have an explosives certificate.

What do you actually get caught on as an amateur?
I guess it's not entirely good to shoot stones at the neighbor even if you have a blasting permit :-?
Insurance companies might have opinions, what do I know?
Personally, I wish there were rocks on the plot... somehow feels more stable than peat & clay :

It was mostly about the insurances that I was thinking of.
then what's illegal is never to one's advantage if you get caught. And you probably will if you shoot rocks around the whole village. You might even be charged with negligence involving explosive materials. The police usually aren't happy with those who blow up ATMs and Securitas cars. They probably don't have a blasting certificate ;D

Blasting is dangerous stuff, you should be aware of that... when we were blasting, I stopped a cyclist on the bike path along the property line, this was a refugee who didn't understand a word of Swedish, barely English either for that matter. After uttering the words "blast," "explosives," and "big boom," he hurriedly turned his bike around, I said he just needed to wait a bit to pass... then came the "big boom" and faster than the eye can see, the refugee dropped his bike, threw himself flat on the asphalt with his hands clasped over his head
The poor guy was probably used to worse "booms"
On another occasion, I stopped a grumpy old lady who came cycling, then I got scolded for not informing her:
"-I haven't read anything in the newspaper about any roadblock, I HAVE TO GET HOME NOW!"
Old hag, to put it bluntly >
At the same time, Route R50 was being rebuilt a few miles from here, several hundred cars were stopped during the blasting without it being announced in the newspapers... but ONE old lady stopped for 2 minutes has to start yelling :

Imagine how much more fun it is to blow things up militarily!
Plastic explosives have significantly more punch than anything available on the civilian market. Not to mention, people have greater respect for barricades if there are green-clad men with automatic weapons by them...
