Hi, if you are nailing together an exterior wall with stud measurements of 170x45, how many nails is it customary to use at the sole plate/top plate for each stud?

Trying to get an idea for material procurement

Thanks in advance

Normally two at the soleplate, and two at the header. Then it's probably reasonable to estimate 1 nail as waste, so you can count on 5 nails per stud.
Now do what you think is best, but haven't you considered screwing instead?

Yes, I have considered that since it becomes more durable and you have the opportunity to correct if you make a mistake 😁

I screwed together my extension. Much easier and quieter than driving large nails everywhere. Torx screws, moreover.
The only thing I nailed was the raw board and paneling. With a nail gun.

Well, I was planning to nail it together with a gun to save time, but at the same time, there probably won't be a huge time difference since it's a pre-cut frame, so it might just add 30 minutes to 1 hour to screw together a side.

What length of screw did you use?

If it is 45mm, I usually use 90-120 mm screws.

4 pcs 100mm nails per joint are what is usually required structurally
