Hi, I have a house from 1909 where we plan to convert a bedroom on the ground floor into a bathroom and laundry room.

Underneath, there's a crawl space that consists of dry rock. The subfloor is filled with seaweed and will be replaced with paper and additional insulation.

The floor for the bathroom will be too high if I don't do something about it. The question is whether I should lower the floor into the floor joists or replace the joists with slimmer but closer ones (now about 60 cc changed to 30 cc).

Since the laundry room is divided with an interior wall, should I make the floor the same as the bathroom, or can I raise the floor joists and lay a vinyl floor to maintain the same floor height throughout the floor?

The first tip is to use plastic mats on both the walls and the floor. Skip the tiles altogether, or as a plumber said when he saw my bathroom, "well, I won't get any renovation work due to moisture damage here, at least."
