Well, now it seems like 900 mm is going to be the new standard, as for example, plasterboards are becoming easier to handle.
If you look at plasterboards and compare prices, it turns out that the price is basically the same for 900 and the old 1200. Being the penny-pincher I am, I already have my reservations here, but...
Then you look at insulation. The old reliable board insulation has a perfect measure to fit within a framework (in wood) with cc60, meaning the width is 565 mm. The new standard is 455 mm. So it's intended to only work with metal stud cc45.
Call me old-fashioned, but I like my wood studs.
Call me cheap, but I don't like paying the same price for a smaller board.
Then we have OSB/plywood, where the 900 width hasn't caught on yet, so these still don't work with the new cc45 standard. But maybe soon it will also come in wider circulation as a 900 board. For the same price as the 1200 board, of course.
I think I managed to forget the purpose of this post, but I'll post it anyway

Classic way to raise the price, reduce the packaging. I'm not entirely sure that's the whole truth here, doesn't the building trade usually do a good job of listing the price per sqm? (and then in tiny text the price for the whole sheet/roll of insulation)
900 mm width has been the standard for a few years now, it is not allowed to use 1200 mm sheets in new constructions for work environment reasons
there is 410 mm width insulation for wooden studs with 45 c/c
the problem is that there are so many variants of insulation that retailers do not have space to have all types in stock
