Nail or Staple for the ceiling?
Well, not much of a question maybe since I believe both will work, but anyway. I’m planning to mount a lot of ceiling panels, white laminated chipboard, onto an existing older ceiling (screwed raw wood panels). I was thinking of attaching it with one of my nail guns. The raw panel is only 17mm, so maybe it's not going to be more than 20mm of nail in some parts. What would you choose? 16Ga nails or a thought that occurred to me that perhaps 20-25mm staples might actually hold better?
I can report myself now, I was torn between brads (16Ga, although I do have an 18Ga too, but why use the weak one
) and staples (bought all the guns while I was at it). I've tried a bit and it'll be staples, it feels like it holds a bit better, but the nails hold really well too so I think it will work great for you too
And yep, it's the same byggamax ceiling I've put up (half of it at least today), in just 17mm raw paneling.
If you're going to set it yourself, I can recommend a quick prop, bought a cheap one a while ago for about 150 kr and it has really helped here. It makes it easier to press up the board properly and then calmly nail it in place. The nail/staple can't pull very well, if you don't press up the board properly, they tend to just go right through the thin edge (for me anyway
)
However, it goes really fast and I'm more than happy that I have the nail/staple gun here
Something like this one, though I found mine in a local store for 149 and bought it on impulse. Now is the first time I've taken it out and it's really serving its purpose.

I have set up, yes, billions of m2 of foiled particle board, almost..
Screws or staples are recommended.
Sure, you can use brads too, but it has happened that they've loosened, and if it's in the middle of the ceiling, you end up regretting your choice, I can tell you..

Well, it felt like the staples "bit" a little better, after all, it's at least the little clip holding instead of the minimal brad head.
Maybe you should consider staples instead Gabbe1 if you have such a tool?

I set up 70m2 today and it went well with 20mm brad nails.
However, I probably would have chosen staples if I had sparse paneling, but since I had tongue and groove boards, I could place a brad nail every 7-8cm and the ceiling holds firm.

Hehe yeah, I've also been quite generous with the brackets, about 5-10cm apart, it's sturdy anyway, and I think like Gabbe has used brads, it holds quite darn well too if you can place them that close.
If you have had to go out on warranty jobs a couple of times, you make sure to fasten properly afterward
It's not the fastener itself that loosens, but the edge is so thin that it tends to give way.
It might also have to do with a new house perhaps wanting to move a little in the beginning...
Now we have found wider fasteners that distribute the load better, the old ones were 5 mm wide or something.
Motek has the stuff needed if anyone is looking...
