Nail freshly cut timber to barn wall
I'm going to have 1-inch planks sawn for me at the local sawmill, and he's using some wind-fallen trees for it. Is it a bad idea to nail the planks directly? It's a barn wall where there will just be a layer of standing planks with "yardstick distance" between, roughly. If it's ok, what would you say about how much it will shrink? I guess the width varies between 100 and 170 mm.

I even nailed my lock panel on my garage when the wood made a cracking sound, and there were no cracks or anything.
The windthrows, how old are they? They might already be dry...
But generally, a little patience is good...

Here we were even cooler, the timber was sawn in the afternoon, painted in the morning, and nailed up in the evening. It's probably been 25 years since and repainted once.
