Went to a house viewing today, which we are considering bidding on. Everything is as okay as it can be in a house built in '78, but I'm wondering about one detail. There are wall-to-wall carpets in the bedrooms (which we plan to remove as soon as the house is ours). I was able to lift a corner to check the subfloor, and there is a thick yellowish slab that is dry and crumbly; when you walk on the floor, it crunches, and you can feel the underlying material breaking and forming dents. Is it old cellplast? Unfortunately, I don't have a photo, I've googled extensively to figure out what it is but can't make sense of it. I would like to know what it is, so that it's not something toxic that requires advanced remediation.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards, Linnéa

Hello and welcome to Byggahus
If the house was built in -78, it likely doesn't require advanced decontamination... probably just cleaning and clearing out.
Getting the house inspected BEFORE purchase is money well invested if you're unsure or not prepared to take a gamble!
