Mounting a 46" TV on a drywall, how?

I am planning to mount my TV on a drywall with steel studs, which means there's not really anything good to anchor into.
A carpenter suggested gluing a plywood board to which the mount can be screwed, and then the TV would hide the plywood. Is this something you would recommend, or are there "smarter" ways to do it?

If it is a standard wall mount where you cannot swivel the TV sideways, use 4 expanders. That should be more than sufficient.
If you use plugs, they must be the correct type of plug, meaning a regular plug for concrete walls will not suffice.

It can be calculated.
Suppose your TV extends one meter out from the wall.
That is, the center of gravity for the TV. It's extremely far out...
Assume that the entire "plug-pulling" moment is taken by the upper plugs.
Assume the VESA mount provides a 3 dm lever arm (= an A4). This is then the perpendicular distance (along the wall) from the upper plug row down to the lower plug row. This will be your rotation center.
50 kg x 1 m x 9.81 N = around 500 Nm
That is, your plugs should handle about 500 Nm with a 0.3 m lever arm.
Each plug was said above to support 25 kg.
250 x 0.3 x 9.81 = about 75 Nm
500/75 = 6.67 plugs at the top and you're good.
It might be a good idea to use an OSB board to be able to have more fastenings.
And also a slightly longer lever arm.
You have to choose your safety margin yourself. I would probably use more than 7 plugs.
Alternatively, a shorter distance.

Cut out a sheet of construction plywood that you paint in the same color as the wall and fasten it to the steel studs through the drywall. Then you install expanders for double drywall both through the plywood sheet and the underlying drywall. That way, you should be able to hang a fully grown boar on it.

If possible, I would have chosen a plyfa or similar to reinforce the mounting. It might happen that a child carelessly pulls on the TV when it is extended, which could pull down the entire TV. The cost of a plyfa is certainly not comparable to a 46-incher!
