Certainly a silly question, but are molly plugs needed to attach, for example, a bookshelf on a hard gypsum wall, or are regular brackets and screws enough? There is a recessed sliding door behind the wall, so I guess I can't go through the gypsum.
If you have a recessed sliding door behind the wall, it becomes difficult to use Molly plugs or similar that expand on the inside, yes.
(It *can* work if you have the option to remove the door and measure exactly how much clearance you have, but the risk of scratches on the door is significant.)
Attaching bookshelves to drywall without having any expansion behind feels risky.
Can you attach a plywood board in front or use a shelving system with tracks that run all the way from floor to ceiling?
