I'm going to install a newly purchased ceiling lamp in our likewise new kitchen. It seems that there is no joist in place where we want to hang our lamp. Can I attach the lamp directly to the plaster? What technique/screw/plug should I use for it to hold? Does a metal expander work? Universal plug? Something else?

When we lived in a "gipslägenhet," I remember that we had to use expansion screws for the kitchen lamp as it otherwise wouldn't stay up ::)

A gypsum ceiling normally has a sparse panel with 300 mm center-to-center spacing above. If the sparse panel is 70 mm wide, then there are "gaps" of 230 mm between them. You thus have a decent chance of hitting the sparse panel and using a regular wood screw (hook). Otherwise, I would suggest a molly anchor, then you’re sure not to get the lamp on your head ;)

It turned out to be mollyexpander and it feels like the lamp is now where it should be.

Thank you for the help!
