Hi! I hope I'm in the right forum now (otherwise feel free to advise me on where I should turn.)
I need tips on where I can find mouldings. I'm looking for mouldings for a custom-built bookshelf that we are building. The mouldings need to cover the MDF edges (the shelves are 16 mm and the "side walls" are 48 mm (three MDF boards standing together).
When I search for mouldings, I can't find any that are symmetrical... (They're all meant as things like baseboards which aren't the same at "top and bottom" if you know what I mean.)
So, it's not smooth mouldings I'm looking for, but some kind of decorative profile. They must be the same on both the top and bottom edges on the long side if you know what I mean... Where should I look? (And what are they called, maybe I'm completely off when I search for "mouldings"?)
Hoping for an answer!!

Check if you find anything here: du hittar något här.
Completely symmetrical trims are, as mentioned, quite rare among moldings and such. Check among "decorative trims," that’s the category where I’ve found some (though with companies here in the Stockholm area, so that doesn’t particularly help you).
For the shelves, I think symmetrical profiled trims of only 16 mm width are probably very hard to find in building supplies stores. I'm wondering if it might be worth checking with a framing workshop or something similar..?
Otherwise, I think if it were me, I would consider buying some straight wood, like a square dowel, and milling the profile myself for the narrow trim. You can't get much on 16 mm width, so it would just be something simple, like a quarter-round profile along both edges. There are milling bits with bearings for that, so it’s easy milling even if you’re a beginner with it...doesn't require a particularly good milling machine either, a cheap one will do.
