I have some raw pine boards with some color variations that I suspect are mold stains, is that correct?

They have been stored outside under a tarp since last winter. Are they okay to use or should they be discarded?

(It is the upper light ones I'm wondering about. They are on a pallet that has gotten a bit of rain splashes on it)

  • Light wooden planks with dark spots, potentially mold, lying on a pallet. The boards show color variations, possibly from being stored under a tarp.

They look perfectly fine, but if they feel noticeably damp, I wouldn't use them. If they don't, just nail them down.

It depends on where they are going to be. Ideally, you don't want to use moldy boards indoors, but these were so marginally affected that they could be used indoors as well. It's too dry for mold to grow and thrive indoors if you would want to have them visible and untreated. If painted, the "problem" is invisible.

If they are going to be in unheated spaces, it doesn't make much difference either, as it's easy for mold to grow on wood in such areas no matter how healthy the boards are when they are installed.
